Saltspring Island
From Margaret Dyke, September 2011: We had another lovely day out "on the road" to the Saltspring Island Fall fair and other Saltspring attractions. A foggy island morning turned in to a lovely afternoon. Here are some photos to share. In case anyone is worried, the bus was NOT moving during the dancing scene....this was a musical interlude while we waited for the ferry to depart for Crofton!

Another good bus trip in August -  on the Frances Barkley from Port Alberni to Bamfield. Mist on the Alberni Inlet cleared in time for us to watch freight being picked up and dropped off at various locations. It was quiet and sunny in Bamfield and we had a smooth sail back. Lots of boats out fishing but we only spotted one bear. ..... (from Margaret Dyke)

There were two interesting trips in August. Info and pics below (from Margaret Dyke) First: "On the Road" trip to Saturna Island . We had warm sun and fresh sea air on the ferry rides and enjoyed exploring the roads and trails. We visited parks, beaches and the Saturna Vineyard; chatted to some of the "locals" and saw otters, deer (of course),sea lions and .....a turkey in the woods! Lots of people were cycling on this quiet little gulf island. Click here or on the image below to start the slide show  - then use the arrows to move through

And now about the Sayward venture ......with interesting side trips to Kelsey Bay and Little Bear Bay.

Mediterranean Medley (March 27 2010)

The Program Committee of the NHCS hosted a most enlightening and enjoyable armchair tour, of the Mediterranean on Saturday, March 27th.  The event was sold out with a wait list  that could not be accommodated. Those present learned a little about Renaissance Painting, learned a little Italian, enjoyed a superb Mediterranean-themed lunch, and the day wrapped up with a presentation about cruising and touring.

The luncheon was prepared by the Culinary Arts Instructor at John Barsby Secondary School, along with two of his first-class students.  From the beautifully presented spring salad, accompanied by hot pita bread, to the chicken souvlaki served with 7-grain rice, and roasted vegetables, to the gelato topped with fresh strawberries, the entire meal was a delight.  Many people commented that the meal was worth the price of the whole day's cost!

The event was a grand success and was enjoyed by all present.  Many thanks to Miriam Peacock, Program Committee Chair, and her committee members!

Ciao!
